If you’re on the fence about the value of elk hunting outfitters and whether you’re a good candidate for using one, allow us to introduce ourselves and share with you a bit of our take. Granted, you could consider us biased, but at the same time, you can’t deny the realities. Sage Peak Outfitters is based in Gallatin Gateway, Montana, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We specialize in big game hunting, utilizing various weapons in various seasons, and offer both wilderness and private ranch hunts. We’re hoping you step onto our side of the fence and here’s why…
An outfitter can only help you (there’s no chance of hurting you). No matter your skill level or experience, you’ll benefit from a guide; unless we’re talking about you hunting your usual target on your own land. If that’s the case, then you’re the one person this page doesn’t apply to. For everyone else, it’s a prized opportunity to take advantage of.
For those who question if they truly need one – it might not be life or death as far as you surviving goes, but it could very well be life or death for that big elk. Our guides know more than you – that’s why you pay them. We know the lay of the land, the migration patterns of the herds, and chances are we hunt more than you. This isn’t a competition, but simply an illustration that our job is meant to be invaluable to you. If all factors were equal, it may be a different story, but when you embark on a destination hunting trip, that puts you out of your element and into somebody else’s – why would you not want their guidance?
Others are concerned that it’s cheating. This is far from the truth. Does that mean you cheated to get your driver’s license when you had an instructor sitting in the passenger seat for your diving test? That’s not even the best analogy, but it goes to show that you are the hunter and we are the outfitter – make no mistake. A guide doesn’t take the shot for you, and a guide can’t be your stamina, your patience, or your focus.
There is much more to be said about the role of elk hunting outfitters, but the bottom line is, if you’re considering using one, contact Sage Peak Outfitters and we’ll help you make an informed decision.
